10-12 September 1999, Central California Group 6 held a Basic Cadet
School (BCS) at the Group Headquarters in Fresno. Basic Cadet Schools are the first step
in California Wing's unique Integrated Leadership Program . At a
BCS, cadets receive instruction in the basics of being a member in the Civil Air Patrol. A
staff of six experienced cadet instructors from Groups 6 taught the students about the
wear of their BDUs, about the different parts of followership, about their memory work,
and about many other things important in a cadet's CAP career. To break up the classes,
the cadets also participated in drill labs and volleyball games. All cadets that attended
graduated the afternoon of 12 September, showing that they had the potential to become the
next wave of leaders in CAP.
